Stirlingshire Crematorium goes the eggstra mile
Staff at Stirlingshire Crematorium have been sharing some smiles this Easter by delivering hundreds of chocolate eggs to two local organisations which provide vital support to local people.
The crematorium collected nearly 300 eggs, which were donated by staff and their families, local funeral directors, celebrants/officiants and members of the public, after putting up a poster and spreading the word that they planned to give the eggs to charity.
The two organisations chosen to receive the eggs were Stirling & District Women’s Aid and the Children’s Ward at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
Stirlingshire Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully-landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.
Crematorium Assistant Rachel Norris said: “This is the first year we decided to do an Easter egg collection – we opened in May 2019, after Easter that year, and were then locked down for the following two Easters, so this is the first time we have been able to collect for local worthy causes.
“We had an initial target of trying to collect 100 eggs and were blown away by the response we had. We are very grateful for the generosity of everyone who supported us.
“We chose Stirling & District Women’s Aid because, during a recent service here, the celebrant spoke about the work and support that this charity provides, not only to women but to children suffering from domestic abuse.
“We chose the children’s ward at Forth Valley Hospital in order to hopefully raise a smile among children who will not be able to spend Easter at home.
“We know that the NHS staff put in a huge amount of effort trying to make the children’s experience of hospital as comfortable and positive as possible, and we thought we could help by providing easter eggs for the little ones.
“Both organisations work extremely hard to support people in our local community and it is a privilege to be able to give something ourselves to help them support local families.”
