Stirlingshire Crematorium supports local female rugby team
Stirlingshire Crematorium is challenging stereotypes ahead of the forthcoming rugby season, switching from sponsoring the men’s side of a local club to the ladies.
For the 2022/23 season, the crematorium is supporting the Ladies team at Stirling County Rugby Football Club, who play in the Tennent’s Premiership.
The club as a whole is over 116 years old and has been proudly providing rugby, sports and social activities and facilities to the wider community within central Scotland, Stirling District and the City of Stirling in that time.
Last season, Stirlingshire Crematorium sponsored the men’s team so this season, as part of its commitment to be inclusive and show support for all parts of the surrounding community.
Stirlingshire Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully-landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.
The crematorium is funding the sponsorship through its metal recycling scheme.
With the consent of families, metals recovered during cremation are recycled and any money raised is used to support charities and other worthy causes in the communities surrounding every crematorium and cemetery which are part of Westerleigh Group.
Stirlingshire Crematorium site manager Donnie Connor said: “Like all Westerleigh Group’s crematoria, we are passionate about being a good neighbour and having a positive presence in our local communities.
“We opened in May 2019, so the rugby club has been a part of the community for far longer than we have, but it’s an honour to be able to support them through sponsorship, and to enable them to continue doing what they do.
“We look forward to the start of the new season and following the achievements of the rugby team. We wish all the players lots of energy and enjoyment from playing and, every success during their forthcoming fixtures.”
Eddie Pollock, Director at the rugby club, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Stirlingshire Crematorium for the new 22/23 season.
“It’s great to see local businesses supporting sport in the city and we are indebted again to Donnie Connor and his team as they become a strip sponsor to our successful Women’s 1st XV.
“We look forward to developing our partnership over the coming years as we strive to further develop rugby in the local community.”
